More than three million girls in Saudi Arabia do not have national ID cards even though they have reached the age of 15, the Ministerial Agency of Civil Affairs at the Saudi Interior Ministry said.
Agency spokesperson Mohammed Al-Jasser said the government is working hard to open women’s sections in his offices across the country to encourage applications.
Some of the offices open during the weekend while others have late closing times to accommodation the requirements of citizens, there are also a number of mobile units.
The number of identity cards being issued is on the rise at a rate of 104,000 per week as a result of the large amount of girls who have reached the age of 15 and still have not obtained their national identity cards.
