Fighting intensifies along Saudi-Yemeni border

Local sources in Yemen have reported a spike in fighting between the warring parties along the Saudi-Yemeni border days after a ceasefire came to an end. Houthi militias and forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh have attacked a strategic area in the Yemeni-Saudi border region after a fierce clash between the militia forces and the Saudi army and border guards yesterday afternoon, Yamanyoon reported.

They attacked the Al-Zaj, situated in the Asir region in southern Saudi Arabia, and captured a military vehicle and ammunition.

In Yemen, the Yemeni army, loyal to President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, and local resistance forces intensified their attacks on Houthi positions in the northern highlands of the country this morning.

In the Houthi heartland of the Sa’ada province, the Yemeni army seized large quantities of missiles that were intended to be smuggled to the Saudi border. According to local sources, weapons belonging to the Houthi and Saleh militias have been seized in Al-Buqa district, Yemeni army sources claimed they originated in Iran.

There have been a several reports of violent clashes between the warring parties in the Al-Maslub district in the northern province of Al-Jawf.

In Hajjah, a Saudi-led coalition airstrike destroyed a storage base of tanks and artillery weapons that allegedly belonged to Houthi and Saleh militias.

Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Shia Houthi fighters allied with forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh and government forces led by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, along with local tribes and resistance forces backed by the Saudi-led coalition’s airstrikes.
