A Dutch MP gave a short speech in Arabic in parliament yesterday to welcome Syrian refugees into the country.

“We support your call for freedom, justice and security. We will not forget you, and you shall remain in our hearts,” Tunahan Kuzu said in Arabic.

“Your pain is our pain, your grief is our grief, and your conflict is our conflict.”

Concluding his speech with: “And I say to Syrians in Holland, welcome to Holland.”

There are currently more than 64,000 Syrians registered with the Dutch authorities.

Earlier this year, Kuzu refused to shake hands with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the Netherlands.
