A number of news agencies quoted the Russian armed forces chief saying today that his country has started the process of reducing the number of its military forces in Syria.
Interfax and Tass news agencies quoted Gen Valery Gerasimov saying: “In accordance with the decision of the supreme commander of the Russian armed forces Vladimir Putin, the Russian defence ministry is beginning the reduction of the armed deployment to Syria.’
He also noted that Russia’s war fleet, led by the Admiral Kuznetsov carrier, operating in the Mediterranean Sea, across from the Syrian coast, will be the first vessels which will return to the country.
