Expats working in Qatar transferred 11.2 billion Qatari riyals ($3.02 billion) outside the country in the first quarter of 2017, according to official records released yesterday.
The Qatari Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics revealed that expats’ money transfers increased by 0.4 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2016, which reached 10.98 billion Qatari riyals ($3 billion).
Total transfers made by expat workers in 2016 reached 43.1 billion Qatari riyals ($11.8 billion).

More than 2.1 million foreigners work in Qatar. They come from around 100 nationalities and make up 88 per cent of the country’s population.
Asian nationals constitute the majority of foreigners working in Qatar.
