Ghannouchi: Moving the US embassy to Jerusalem promotes extremism

Sheikh Rached Ghannouchi, the leader of the Tunisian Ennahdha Party, criticized US President Donald Trump for deciding to move his country’s embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and suggested that this would cause more conflicts in the region.

In an exclusive interview with Quds Press, Ghannouchi said: “US President Donald Trump’s decision to move his country’s embassy to Jerusalem would cause more instability in the region. This is a provocative decision that could lead to further deterioration.”

Ghannouchi suggested that “the US decision to move the Embassy of Washington to Jerusalem is a gift terrorism and is a step that encourages the occupation to be more radical.”

Ghannouchi called on US President Donald Trump to retract the decision in order to preserve the stability of the region and to prevent extremism.

On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump told Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas via a phone call about his intention to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to occupied Jerusalem.

Moving the embassy is considered as US recognition of the legitimacy of the occupation of Jerusalem.
