PA security services carried out 4,000 rights violations against Palestinians in 2017

The Committee of Families of Political Prisoners in the West Bank has revealed that the Palestinian Authority’s own security services carried out 4,071 human rights violations against Palestinian citizens in 2017, Safa News Agency reported on Friday.

The committee recorded 2,863 cases of arrests and summonses for Palestinian citizens on political grounds, as well as other activities related to legitimate resistance against the Israeli occupation. It noted that 680 of the Palestinian citizens arrested by the PA had also been arrested by the Israeli occupation authorities and 738 had been arrested by the PA itself on previous occasions.

According to the statistics, there were 242 university students, 45 journalists, 27 teachers, 12 school students, seven physicians, five engineers, 11 imams and a university professor among those detained in politically-motivated cases.
