Saudi FM tells Davos Palestinian peace talks still possible

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir has told an Israelis newspaper that it will be possible to renew negotiations despite Donald Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem.

“If there are elements acceptable to both sides it will be possible to renew negotiations despite the current crisis surrounding Trump’s statement,” Al-Jubeir told Maariv newspaper at the World Economic Forum.

In response to the American President’s announcement Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas initially said that the US cannot be a mediator between the Palestinians and Israelis in any future negotiations.

However, Israeli media revealed on Tuesday that Abbas agreed in a conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi that the US will resume its role as mediator in talks with Israel.

Palestinian factions have demanded the Palestinian Authority cancel security coordination with Israel and the Oslo agreement.
