Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu after he made remarks about her in his speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

Netanyahu took aim at Omar in his speech, saying: “From this Benjamin – it’s not all about the Benjamins”, in reference to US support for Israel which Omar had highlighted in a tweet last month.

Omar hit back on Twitter, saying: “This from a man facing indictments for bribery and other crimes in three separate public corruption affairs. Next!”

The Congresswoman came under fire after calling out AIPAC on its influence in US politics in February, an organisation which spends $4 million on Congress a year.

Netanyahu was forced to address AIPAC via video link from Israel after cutting short his trip to the US to oversee his army’s bombing of the besieged Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu is currently entangled in four political scandals: Case 1000 which involves allegations that the PM and his wife accepted illegal gifts from businessmen; Case 2000 which accuses Netanyahu of attempting to buy favourable newspaper coverage; Case 3000, also known as the “submarine scandal”; and Case 4000, in which a close associate of Netanyahu is suspected of providing confidential information to Israel’s largest telecoms company.
