Concerns over increasing divorce rates in Algeria

Algerian specialists highlighted the issue of divorce in the country as official statistics show a sharp increase in divorce rates, Anadolu Agency reported on Friday.

The specialists are concerned that the increasing number of divorces could damage the social fabric on several accounts, noting that the direct negative outcome of a divorce is separating children from either their mother or father.

Recent official statistics reveal that the divorce rate in Algerian rose to over 68,000 cases each year.

On 18 January, head of the Algerian Committee in the International Bar Union, Faisal Daryoush, announced that the recent divorce statistics are “dreadful and highly worrying”.
