Local business owners shut down their shops as they go on strike in reaction to the death of Palestinian detainee Khader Adnan who died on day 87 of his hunger strike in Israeli prison, in Ramallah, West Bank on May 02, 2023 [Issam Rimawi – Anadolu Agency]

The Israeli prisons administration has closed all sections in prisons and detention centres where Islamic Jihad prisoners are held.

The Mohjat Al-Quds Foundation for the Martyrs, a Palestinian non-governmental organisation, said in a statement that the Israeli occupation prison administration has also prevented Islamic Jihad prisoners from seeking medical care in prison clinics, moving between sections, or mixing with other prisoners.

Palestinian prisoners from other factions have protested the Israeli authorities’ measures against the Islamic Jihad detainees, refusing to leave their cells, according to the same source.

The prison service’s decision came on the pretext that it had received warnings about the prisoners’ plan to carry out reprisals in response to the death of Palestinian hunger striker, Khader Adnan.

Prisoners carried out a series of protests in following Adnan’s death, including returning meals, stopping all aspects of daily activities, and informing the prison administration that mourning would be open until the perpetrators responsible for the crime committed against Adnan are held accountable.

Adnan, a resident of the town of Arraba in Jenin, northern occupied West Bank, died at dawn on Tuesday, after a hunger strike that lasted 86 days, in protest of his unjust arrest and demanding his freedom.
