The Algerian Ministry of National Defence has announced the appointment of Brigadier General Rochdi Fethi Moussaoui as the Director General of Documentation and External Security (DGDS). He will succeed Major General Mehena Djebbar, who has held the position for two years.

The ministry quoted Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Said Chengriha as saying that Moussaoui was appointed in accordance with the presidential decree dated 19 September. The chief of staff called on the cadres of the relevant directorate to continue to make more efforts in the service of Algeria and protect its interests, urging them to rally around their new director general and support him in carrying out his duties.

Chengriha praised the qualities of Djebbar and his pioneering roles in the military institution, having “dedicated his life to serving the homeland and defending the Republic.” Djebbar assumed command of the DGDS in early September 2022. He is an intelligence figure who worked for many years with the former intelligence chief, Lieutenant General Mohamed Mediene, known as General Touafiq.

Djebbar faced imprisonment and prosecution on serious charges during the time in office of the late Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Gaid Salah.
