Algerian Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui submitted the cabinet’s resignation on Tuesday but President Abdelmadjid Tebboune postponed his response in order to address urgent matters requiring knowledge from current ministers, the presidency said according to Reuters.
This comes after Algeria held a presidential election on 7 September, which saw Tebboune win a second term with 84.30 per cent of the vote, according to the constitutional court.
The final voter turn-out reached 46.10 per cent, state media reported.
Tebboune, backed by the military, was facing only nominal opposition from Abdelaali Hassani Cherif, a moderate Islamist, and Youcef Aouchiche, a moderate secularist.
The campaign of rival candidate Hassani Cherif had previously alleged irregularities in the count.
Hassani Cherif received 9.56 per cent of the vote while Aouchiche got 6.14 per cent, state media reported.
