Kuwait has called for action against Israel’s systematic violations and ongoing “disregard” for the United Nations Charter, international humanitarian law and human rights.
In a speech on Tuesday, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Tareq Al-Banai, said the occupation’s violations of the UN Charter and its breaches of all its commitments, including the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, set dangerous precedents that threaten the integrity and existence of the United Nations, its agencies and international cooperation.
This came during a discussion on the report of the Special Committee on the Charter of the United Nations and on Strengthening the Role of the Organisation, during which Kuwait’s representative strongly condemned Israel’s systematic attack against the United Nations and its specialised agencies, including the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). He also criticised Israel’s declaration of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres as a “persona non grata.”
He described these unilateral actions as “null and void without legal effect,” stressing that the occupation has no sovereignty over the city of Jerusalem.
Regarding efforts to sustain the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Al-Banai emphasised the need to intensify international efforts to increase humanitarian aid and ensure its delivery to all areas of the besieged enclave.
In this regard, he urged the international community to play a more effective role in stopping Israel’s escalation in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, as well as its attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites.
