Some 891 new housing units have been approved to be built in occupied Jerusalem, a decision by the Planning and Building Committee of the Jerusalem Municipality revealed yesterday.

The plan stipulates the construction of 891 units in the southern Jerusalem neighbourhood of Gilo. The plan was frozen temporarily during the recent visit of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the United States.

Housing and Construction Minister Jackie Levy praised the plan saying that he applauds the approval in “our eternal capital Jerusalem”. Levy also said that Israel should build up Jerusalem and strengthen it as much as possible.
