The Jerusalem Committee for the Arab Medical Union has called upon the Arab League to carry out an urgent information campaign in support of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and to protect the Arab and Islamic heritage in the holy city.
In a statement sent to the Arab League, the Egyptian foreign ministry, the Islamic Cooperation Organisation and other Egyptian and Arab syndicates and unions, the Arab Medical Union called for all to actively oppose Israel’s continuing Judaisation of the holy city.
The Union pointed to the increasing level of aggressions against the city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers and police over the last week.
It also highlighted the need to oppose a plan revealed by Israeli media last week that will expand the city by 1,000 km squared in the coming years to become a central city.
According to the Union, Israeli media revealed that the plan requires demolishing the Dome of the Rock in order to make room for a new Jewish Temple in its place. The Union said that the plan also included destroying other sites, including the historical Othman Walls.
The Jerusalem Committee for the Union noted that it has been closely monitoring developments in Jerusalem, including the accelerated Judaisation measures. It has already warned several times of policies taken to separate and limit access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The Committee stressed that the new Israeli plan to create a ‘Modern Jerusalem’ heightens the urgent need to protect the holy city and the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Committee also called for exerting greater efforts to support Jerusalemites.
