Syrian refugees in Lebanon pass ¾ million mark

The number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon registered and awaiting registration with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and its partners is now estimated to be more than 755,000 people.


The refugees are to be found across the country as well as in the capital, Beirut. A UNHCR report puts the number of refugees in north Lebanon at 211,000 (33 per cent of the total); the Bekaa’ Valley in the east of the country at 218,000 (34 per cent); Beirut and its southern suburbs, 134,000 (18 per cent); and South Lebanon generally at 86,000 (13 per cent).

The report added that more than 14,000 persons have been registered in the past week alone.
