Israel may get involved in international attack on Syria

February 13, 2014 at 12:07 am

Israeli radio has reported Avigdor Lieberman, head of the Committee on Foreign and Security in the Israeli Knesset, saying that Israel “may have no choice” but to get involved in any potential war against Syria.

However, Lieberman hopes that Israel will not be obliged to intervene. He said: “We have no interest in this confrontation, neither on the internal front nor on the foreign front.”

The former foreign minister appreciates the “responsible” treatment of the issue by the current Israeli government, including its diplomatic efforts. He believes that the situation in Syria is a “test” for American foreign policy.

Lieberman called for Israelis to comply with internal orders and to obtain the necessary protective respirators in the case of a reprisal attack. At the same time he downplayed the seriousness of the Syrian threat, which created hysteria among some Israelis.

Meanwhile, ahead of the potential international attack on Syria, Israeli forces carried out a mass military maneuver in the Golan Heights and put all its units on alert.
