Egyptian Brotherhood condemns assassination of Jabari

February 17, 2014 at 11:20 pm

The Freedom and Justice Party, the political arm of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood, has condemned the assassination by the Israeli occupation forces of Ahmed Jabari. The party sent its condolences to the leaders of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement – Hamas – and to the Palestinian people.

In an official statement, the party demanded that the Arab and international community take a firm stand against such killings and the slaughter of Palestinians besieged in the Gaza Strip. The party noted that the Israeli government is using Gaza as a lever in the current political struggle within Israel.

It added that Israel’s return to its assassination policy against the leaders of the Palestinian resistance movements confirms that the occupation authorities want to drag the region into instability. The Freedom and Justice Party said that it also highlighted the need to let the Israelis know that the Arab region has witnessed change, especially in Egypt, which will not stand aside and leave the Palestinian people at the mercy of Israeli aggression, as was the case in the past.

It should be noted that Ahmed Jabari was one of the main architects of last year’s prisoner swap deal, which entailed the release of more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. Indeed, Jabari was responsible for Shalit’s well-being throughout his captivity.
