Trial of 683 Brotherhood members to take place in April

April 12, 2014 at 12:54 pm

Egypt’s Minya Criminal Court has set April 28 as the date to announce its verdict against 683 members and supporters of the banned Muslim Brotherhood including the Muslim Brotherhood’s general guide, Mohammed Badie, and the chairman of its Freedom and Justice Party, Saad El-Katatni; defence lawyer Muhammad Toson told AFP yesterday.

The Minya Criminal Court on Monday sentenced 529 Muslim Brotherhood supporters to death as the Cairo Criminal Court resumed the trial of ousted President Hosni Mubarak, his two sons and his interior minister Habib El-Adly.

The defendants are charged with “illegal assembly, setting fire to a police station, showing unauthorised force and joining the banned Muslim Brotherhood.”

The defence lawyer boycotted yesterday’s trial in protest, as he was prevented from presenting evidence or making a case in Monday’s trial.
