Israel has drawn up plans for the emergency evacuation of settlers living near the Gaza Strip should unrest erupt once again, Arabs48.com reported yesterday.
The plans, which were proposed to a ministerial committee, state: “When fighting against Israel was renewed along its borders, at least 20 settlements would be evacuated to temporary Kibbutzim and other lodges prepared by the Israeli Ministry of Defence.”
It was also suggested that an inland settlement be twinned with each settlement located near the border. Training would be provided to evacuate settlers to their twinned town, Arabs48.com reported.
Israeli TV Channel 2 said that the National Emergency Authority had sent messages to the heads of local councils in the settlements around the Gaza Strip that includes details of the emergency plan.
Arabs48.com said that a similar plan funded by the state was not implemented during the latest war in order not to allow Palestinians to declare a victory.
