Tarek Al-Zomar, chairman of the Construction and Development party, welcomed an Egyptian court’s refusal to blacklist his group saying that banning the group would have ended the time of peacefulness, Al-Mesryoon reported yesterday.
Al-Zomar said that he did not expect the decision, which also refused to blacklist the Salafist Front, because this court has several times ruled on issues not under its jurisdiction.
Speaking to Al-Mesryoon, Al-Zomar said: “I was afraid that the court would have banned the group as that would be a dangerous, negative message to all sides. That would have completely closed the door of peacefulness forever.”
The Egyptian court of urgent matters in Alexandria refused to ban the Construction and Development party (Al-Gamaa Al-Islamiya) or the Salafist Front, saying this does not come under its jurisdiction.
