The director general of the Peace Now movement, Yariv Oppenheimer, is reported to have accepted an army call to perform his military service in an Israeli settlement, despite claiming that he opposes the construction of Israeli settlements on Palestinian occupied land.
According to Israeli sources, Oppenheimer is performing his military service in the Mevo Dotan Jewish settlement built on Palestinian lands owned by the towns of Arrabeh and Yaabad in Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Oppenheimer confessed to doing his service in the settlement, saying through his Facebook page that: “This is my civil duty”, and hoping that such calls would end after such settlements are evacuated.
