ISIS in Libya forced Libya Dawn forces out of the city of Sirte, taking control of the area and its electricity plant, the Anadolu Agency reported yesterday.
In a statement published on social media, ISIS said its members broke into the electricity plant and forced Libya Dawn forces out of it. The group said it is now in control of the whole city.
At the end of the last month, the group announced it was in control of the city’s airport after beating Libya Dawn forces.
The electricity plant in Sirte is one of the most important sovereign facilities in Libya as it supplies many areas in the centre and west of the country. It means that ISIS now controls electricity supplies for about half of Libyans.
