Egypt blacklists 18 Muslim Brotherhood leaders

November 9, 2015 at 11:05 am

The Cairo Criminal Court blacklisted 18 Muslim Brotherhood leaders, including the Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, an official Egyptian newspaper reported yesterday.

The 18 leaders had been removed from the blacklist last week by the Court of Cassation.

The Egyptian news website Almesryoon.com reported last week that the Court of Cassation’s decision overruled the decisions of the executive authorities, represented by former Prime Minister Hazem Al-Beblawi, which blacklisted the Muslim Brotherhood.

It also reported that the same court, which is the highest judicial commission in the country, cancelled the decision of the Court of Urgent Matters which also blacklisted the group.

Many of the Brotherhood’s leaders and members had been handed death sentenced or long jail terms by the military rulers of the country after they were arrested when the first freely elected Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi was ousted in 2013 in a military coup.
