The former Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation, Amr Darraj, said on Monday that the Muslim Brotherhood will never give up on the legitimacy of Dr Mohamed Morsi, the first democratically elected civilian president in Egypt.
“There have been multiple rumours claiming that we are giving up on Morsi’s legitimacy and planning to reconcile with the bloody regime of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi,” explained Darraj, “but we would never give up on having President Morsi return as legitimate president of Egypt.”
Using his Facebook page to respond to a series of calls from Egyptian figures abroad to return to the principles of the 25 January, 2011 revolution, including to waive Morsi’s right as president as well as having Sisi step down from power, Darraj repeated, “President Morsi is the democratically-elected president of the Egyptian people and no one can take away this right.”
Brotherhood supporters trusted Morsi as head of the Freedom and Justice Party and chose him as the presidential candidate to confront the dark forces of the dictator regime, he added.
President Morsi was removed from power in a military coup orchestrated by the then Defence Minister Al-Sisi in 2013.
