An Egyptian court yesterday acquitted Mubarak-era Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif and indicted Muslim Brotherhood leaders, Palestinian Safa news agency reported.
The Court of Cassation accepted Nazif’s appeal regarding his five-year sentence over graft charges and ordered a retrial. The same court handed prison terms to a number of Muslim Brotherhood leaders.
Nazif’s trial is now due to begin on 3 February when a final decision will be issue. No appeal will be accepted following that decision.
Nazif was sentenced to three years in September 2012 and fined nine million Egyptian pounds ($1.15 million).
Last June, the Cairo Criminal Court sentenced him to five years in prison and fined him 53 million Egyptian pounds ($6.7 million).
Nazif was arrested 10 months after the January 25 Revolution which ousted Hosni Mubarak and his regime.
