Fatah asks Germany to recognise State of Palestine

December 10, 2015 at 9:46 am

Member of Fatah Executive Committee Mohamed Ishtea yesterday asked a German delegation to recognise a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, Palsawa.com reported.

During a German visit to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, West Bank, Ishtea said Europe “must stand behind its political manifesto, which states that Israeli settlements are illegal and believes in the two-state solution based on the UN resolutions.”

The senior Fatah official said that there is a need for putting more pressure on Israel to end its occupation, noting to the use of peaceful means such as boycott campaigns and going beyond labelling settlement products.

Ishtea told the delegation that PA President Mahmoud Abbas did his best to make the peace negotiations with Israel succeed, but insisted that Israel chose “no solution”.

He called on Europe to play a greater role in the peace process in order to fill the void left by the US.
