Egyptian President Abdel Fatah Al-Sisi strongly praised and complimented Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu at a time when many Israeli elites accuse him of threatening Tel Aviv’s interests.
Israel’s right-wing newspaper Makor Rishon revealed today that Al-Sisi is appealing to leaders of US Jewish organisations by praising and expressing his like of Netanyahu and his leadership skills.
The newspaper’s correspondent Zvika Klein reported that the leaders of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organisations informed Netanyahu, during their meeting with him yesterday, that Al-Sisi said during his visit with them on Thursday in Cairo that Netanyahu is “a leader who possesses great powers, which assist him not only to lead his country, but can also advance the region and the entire world.”
Al-Sisi’s flattery of Netanyahu is an indicator that Israeli minister Yuval Steinitz’s exposure of the real reasons behind Egypt’s destruction of the tunnels between Gaza and Sinai when he said that this was done on Israel’s orders, did not affect the Cairo government’s position on Israel.
Israeli security services had expressed their anger at Steinitz, accusing him of threatening the interests of Israel due to his exposure of Al-Sisi’s position, thus potentially pushing Cairo to end its strategic cooperation with Israel.
Netanyahu is currently facing a campaign of sharp criticism by Israeli elites who accuse him of failing and hold him responsible for the outbreak of the #JerusalemIntifada.
