Netanyahu does his best to reinforce Palestinian division, says Erekat

Secretary of the PLO’s Executive Committee Saeb Erekat said on Tuesday that the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu “is doing his best to reinforce Palestinian division”, Safa news agency reported.

During a workshop at the Open University in the West Bank city of Qalqilya, Erekat said: “Netanyahu is doing this as he recognises that there is not a Palestinian state in Gaza alone or the West Bank alone. Therefore, it carried out the unilateral disengagement in Gaza.”

Erekat reiterated that the internal Palestinian division is “shameful”, stressing that there is “no justification” for it as long as there is occupation.

Erekat said: “What is Netanyahu’s reason for the war? It is implementing the criminal policy of his government. He needs to wipe Palestine out of the map during the coming 100 years after the fall of Sykes-Picot.”

He stressed that Fatah exists for the return of Palestine to its people, adding that Fatah is offering political partnership with Hamas because there is no Palestinian state without “one authority and one legal weapon”.
