Egypt’s FM says different visions delaying establishment of joint Arab military force

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has said that the establishment of a joint Arab force has been delayed until the different visions of Arab countries are united, the Egyptian parliament quoted Shoukry as saying in a statement on Thursday.

The Arab League decided last year to form a joint Arab military force to intervene in Middle East conflict zones, but did not take any practical steps to implement the protocol  until now.

Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have recently confirmed their commitment to the establishment of a joint force.

Shoukry also commented on Egyptian-Qatari relations, saying that there is “no hostile attitude” towards Qatar and that Egypt is keen to keep all channels open with all countries.

Meanwhile, Shoukry said that Egypt and Sudan have “some differences” but added that they do not effect the “essence” of the “well-established relations” between them.

Sudan has recently demanded Egypt negotiate directly with it over the disputed Halayeb region after Cairo signed an agreement handing over two strategic Red Sea islands to Saudi Arabia.
