Egyptian security on Saturday arrested Izz Al-Din Khaled, member of the sarcastic art group named Street Children, from his house in Cairo, on charges of inciting anti-government protests, the group wrote on its Facebook page.
Security officials also stormed the houses of other members of the group; no arrests were made as they were not home.
According to AlKhaleejOnline, the group said that it is likely that 19-year-old Khaled was arrested because of the Street Children’s critique of the Egyptian political system.
Coordinator of the group, Mohamed Adel, was reported by an Egyptian newspaper saying that on Sunday at dawn, Egyptian security attempted to arrest two of the group’s members, but failed as they were not home.
Street Children is a group of teens who produce satirical videos to criticise the political system and the ailing political and economic situation in Egypt.
Arresting Khaled and attempting to arrest other members of the group are all part of “Al-Sisi’s war on freedom of expression,” activists explained.
