Hamas welcomes formation of committee to run electricity file

May 10, 2016 at 11:12 am

Hamas yesterday welcomed a call made by NGOs to form a national committee to run the Gaza Strip’s electricity file, Felesteen newspaper reported.

In a statement, the group’s spokesman Sami Abu-Zuhri called for “taking this idea seriously”, noting this has nothing to do with the Electricity Distribution Company as any national committee is able to run the company and bear its responsibilities.

During a meeting with the Head of the Energy Authority, Omar Kitana, and the Palestinian factions, Abu-Zuhri stressed that his movement does not object to the authority in Ramallah solving the enclave’s electricity crisis.

On Sunday, the Director of the NGO Network in Gaza, Amjad Al-Shawwa, called for the formation of a national committee to run the electricity file in the Strip.

The electricity company had called for all the Palestinian factions to put an end to the daily suffering of civilians caused by the energy crisis.
