August 16, 2016 at 11:50 am

Saudi Arabia on Monday called on the United Nations Security Council and the international community to provide immediate and urgent protection for civilians and children in the Syrian city of Aleppo, alongside other cities, and play an active role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian aid.

This came during the Saudi cabinet’s weekly meeting, which was chaired by King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

In a statement reported by Saudi Press Agency, the cabinet strongly condemned the continuation of daily violations against civilians by the Syrian regime and its allies.

The cabinet also strongly condemned the deliberate targeting of schools, hospitals and medical personnel, the destruction of cities by indiscriminate aerial bombardments and the use of blockades as a tactic of war.

On 6 August, Syrian opposition forces were able to lift the siege imposed by Syrian regime forces on the city of Aleppo prompting the regime to intensify their attack on the city.
