French prime minister warns of future attacks

September 11, 2016 at 11:46 pm

Manuel Valls, France’s Prime Minister, said that future terrorist attacks in France were likely. Speaking in a radio and television interview on Sunday, the Prime Minister said:

There will be new attacks, there will be innocent victims…this is also my role to tell this truth to the French people

He went on to argue that security reforms proposed by former president, And potential candidate in the forthcoming presidential elections, Nicolas Sarkozy were misguided.

Valls said that French police and security forces were tracking at around 15,000 people who had been involved in some kind of radicalisation. However, he argued that suggested changes by Sarkozy – including the creation of special courts and detention centres – were wrong:

He is wrong about trying to wring the neck of the rule of law

On Friday three women were arrested near Notre Dame Cathedral, where they were planning to attack a Paris railway station under the direction of Islamic State.
