Sisi wants apology from Saudi monarch before reconciliation

A high level meeting has been held between a senior officer of the UAE Armed Forces and Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to discuss reconciliation between Cairo and Riyadh, local media have reported.

Commander Mohamed Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan met Sisi on Thursday in Cairo’s Al-Itihadiyeh Palace to discuss the differences between Egypt and Saudi Arabia which erupted a couple of weeks ago. According to informed sources, the meeting ended with a UAE delegation going to Riyadh to meet Saudi officials for the sake of the reconciliation.

The same sources revealed that Sisi has demanded a “clear Saudi apology for the violations made by Saudi Arabia against Egypt.” No further details were reported.

It is noteworthy that for the second month running Saudi Arabia has not delivered the oil shipments which were agreed upon earlier to help boost the Egyptian economy.

Mutual relations between the two countries have been difficult for about two months. The tension was heightened when the Egyptian envoy to the UN Security Council voted two weeks ago in favour of a Russian resolution regarding the situation in Syria.
