‘Sisi and Copts bound until death’

The relation between Egypt’s Copts and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is like a “Catholic marriage that only ends with death”, a Christian lawyer appointed to the Shura Council by former President Mohamed Morsi said.

“Christian Copts have supported President Al-Sisi since the beginning,” Mamdouh Ramzi said during an interview with Dream TV channel, adding that Al-Sisi has nothing to do with the attack on the Coptic Orthodox Church in Cairo earlier this week.

Ramzi’s comments come as leaders of the Egyptian church, politicians and prominent Christian lawmakers expressed their support for Al-Sisi after the attack which left 25 dead.

Media reports suggested that Al-Sisi made a deal with church leaders to give them more authority in return for helping him overcome the consequences of the attack.
