Mossad Director Yossi Cohen recently visited the US and met with members of President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team to present details of the Middle East conflict from Tel Aviv’s perspective, Israeli media reported today.

Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper reported that Cohen discussed the Iranian nuclear programme, the war in Syria, terrorist threats and the Palestinian conflict with Trump’s team.

Cohen visited the US as part of a delegation sent by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu led by Israel’s Acting National Security Adviser Yaakov Nagel. Israeli Ambassador to the US, Ron Dermer, also attended the meetings.

According to the newspaper, one of the issues discussed by the Israeli delegation and Trump’s transition team was the initiative that will be presented for a vote in the UN Security Council to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Suggestions Israel rejects. These include a Palestinian draft resolution stressing the illegality of settlements, a French peace initiative to reactivate the peace process and the New Zealand initiative.

The Israeli delegation also discussed what it described as the on-going communications regarding holding a regional conference, under the auspices of Egypt. Netanyahu aims, by means of this conference, to improve Israel’s relations with the Arab countries Israel describes as “moderate” without resolving the conflict with the Palestinians. However, it does not appear that this conference will be held.
