Iran’s Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani has accused the United States of committing war crimes in the Iraqi city of Mosul.

Russia Today news agency yesterday reported Shamkhani calling for court cases to begin following the bombing of residential areas in Mosul which resulted in the death of a large number of civilians.

The Iranian official pointed out that the United States bears full responsibility for the crimes, despite statements denying that the actions were deliberate.

Shamkhani stressed that all military operations, whether on Iraqi or Syrian territory, must be implemented after obtaining the official approval of the countries’ authorities stressing that the UN Security Council should indicate the need to respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq.

The US-led international coalition has been involved in an operation to liberate Mosul from Daesh since October last year.
