Israel puts at least six hunger-strikers in solitary confinement

The Israeli prison authorities put at least six leaders of the prisoners’ hunger strike into solitary confinement on Monday, Safa news agency has reported. Those affected, said the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC), include Marwan Al-Barghouti, the leader of the hunger strike, Karim Younis and Mahmoud Abu-Sorour. They were moved from Hadarim Prison to single cells in Al-Jalama Prison.

The Information Committee of the PPC said that the Israeli occupation authorities relocated a number of prisoners as well as moved them to solitary confinement. However, full details, including the names of all of those moved, have not yet been made available.

Around 1,300 Palestinian prisoners in Israel jails started a hunger strike on 17 April, which is commemorated as Palestinian Prisoners’ Day. They are protesting against very bad conditions and treatment, as well as prison officers’ violations of their rights. They also are calling for an end to solitary confinement and for more family visits to be allowed.
