Sudan FM: We will stop Sudanese rebels joining Libya’s Haftar

Sudanese Foreign Minister, Ibrahim Ghandour, said yesterday that his country will use all means to prevent Libya’s Brigadier General, Khalifa Haftar, from recruiting Darfur rebels in his war in Libya.

Ghandour made his remarks during the opening session of the Sudanese-Egyptian Consultative meeting in Khartoum.

The minister added that Libya is going through a dangerous phase that is unprecedented in its history, stressing that his government will use all means available to prevent Egypt-backed Haftar from using the Darfur rebels in the war in Libya, because that “represents a threat to the national security of Sudan”.

Security threat

He pointed to the widening gap between the Libyan parties and the worsening situation there despite the existence of four initiatives for regional and international peace.

Ghandour has stressed that Sudan’s position remains fixed regarding the situation in Libya which calls to restore security and stability in the country.

Sudanese officials have recently accused the country’s rebel movements of fighting in Libya as mercenaries.
