Somalia: Daesh suicide bomb kills 1

Daesh executed its first suicide attack on a military checkpoint in Basaso city, in Somalia’s Puntland region, yesterday evening 7 News reported.

A Daesh fighter approached the military checkpoint and detonated explosives strapped to his waist killing one soldier and four civilians. Several ambulances rushed to the scene to treat the wounded, transferring them to local hospitals.

Al-Shabaab, a military group which is fighting to oust the Somalian government, has previously attacked security forces in the region but a few fighters have swapped allegiances for the newly professed Daesh faction in Somalia.

Daesh officially claimed responsibility for the attack, publishing a statement via its media wing Amaq.
