The secretary general of Sudan’s Popular Congress Party (PCP) has rejected the joint Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain blacklist of “terrorist entities” which includes Hamas, prominent charities and Muslim scholars, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed reported on Sunday.

Ali Al-Haj Mohamed asked what criteria had been used to make such a designation during a speech to party members. He suggested that the possible criteria used by the three Gulf States could also place Sudan on the terrorist list. He warned that a new war could be launched in the region due to this crisis between the Gulf States.

Just like Qatar, he said, Sudan took part in the Saudi-led coalition to return the legitimate president to Yemen. “Then, we discover that Qatar is a ‘terrorist state’. This means that Sudan is coming next.” The PCP leader stressed the importance of solving the crisis through dialogue.

“We have one message: what is going on is not in our interest and this crisis must be solved,” he said as he hailed Qatar as the only state that supported his country during its own crises. Qatar played a major role in bringing the Sudanese government and armed opposition groups to the negotiating table to try to end the conflicts affecting the country.
