A voice recording which recently circulated is “authentic” and proves Daesh’s leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi is still alive, Pentagon spokesman Eric Pahon said in a statement yesterday.
Pahon added: “US intelligence agencies have determined that alleged voice record belonging to Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi is real.”
“Logically, this is indication that at least audio recording of Baghdadi lived until recently when it was received,” he added.
A website linked to Daesh published a voice recording by the group’s leader Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi in which he urged his followers “to keep fighting and attacking the West”.
He was believed to have been killed in an airstrike in June.
