Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman informed the Palestinian leadership of the US’ “deal of the century”, Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) revealed yesterday.

“Jared Kushner, US President Donald Trump’s advisor and son-in-law, conveyed details of the proposed deal to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman,” Ahmad Majdalani, a member of the PLO’s Executive Committee, told the Anadolu Agency.

Bin Salman, Majdalani said, had informed Palestinian officials, who had responded by reiterating their commitment to a 2002 Arab peace initiative as a basis for settlement.

He also said that the Palestinian leadership would take “decisive steps” in this regard at a meeting of the PLO Central Council due to take place last this month.

Details of the US “deal of the century”, which would reportedly involve several states of the Middle East in the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, is still ambiguous.

According to Majdalani, the plan is largely based on some kind of “Arab-Israeli alliance” against Shia Iran.

Talks between the Palestinians and Israel broke down in 2014, due largely to the latter’s refusal to halt illegal settlement construction in the occupied West Bank.

Last December, US President Donald Trump drew widespread condemnation from across the world when he officially recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
