The Chief of Hamas’ Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh warned yesterday that Gaza is sitting on top of a volcano that could explode at any time, Shehab.ps reported.
The humanitarian crisis in the coastal enclave is deteriorating under a strict Israeli siege which has lasted for more than a decade.
Haniyeh’s remarks followed a meeting between the Palestinian factions and an Egyptian security delegation in Gaza. He said that the Egyptians recognise the dangerous situation in Gaza, noting that they are working to open the Rafah Crossing and allow the flow of goods and for development projects to take place.
The top Hamas leader stressed that internal reconciliation with Fatah is a “strategic” issue for his movement, calling for Fatah and the Palestinian Authority to take “courageous” steps towards ending division.
