The Egyptian parliament passed a bill to regulate the legal procedures to seize, manage and dispose assets of those who are classified as “terrorist organisations” by the courts.
According to the draft law, which was endorsed unanimously by members of parliament, an independent committee will be formed to take all the relevant necessary measures to execute the court rulings against groups, entities or individuals.
The committee is set to be “temporarily” located at the Ministry of Justice until an independent headquarter is established.
The new committee will consist of seven judges from the Court of Appeal who will serve in the committee for a renewable period of one year. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi is expected to issue a decree on this matter after the Supreme Judicial Council approves the law.
The parliament’s head of the legislative committee, Bahaa Abu Shoka, said that the new bill “seeks to dry the sources of terrorism and to achieve security and safety for Egyptians, after eradicating terrorist groups’funding.”
