The Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, was “a victim of political violence against journalists,” the head of Tunisia’s Ennahda movement, Rached Ghannouchi, said yesterday, expressing his regret over what he described as “attempts to distort” his remarks on the incident.”
Tunisia has good and fraternal relations with Saudi Arabia,” Ghannouchi told Anadolu Agency.
Some parties, he pointed out, had misrepresented my speech about Khashoggi’s killing, aiming at spreading sedition between the party and the presidency. “This is irresponsible and unethical,” he said.“We [Ennahda movement] affirm our respect to the kingdom and we wish it all the best,” he concluded.
Khashoggi was last seen on 2 Octoberwhen he entered the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. Turkey has said it has audio recordings which prove he was killed in the building. After first denying knowledge of Khashoggi’s whereabouts and claiming he had left the consulate 20 minutes after his arrival, Saudi authorities admitted he had been killed on site in what they described as “rogue agents”.
