Arab countries are facing an urgent need for a plan to fight poverty in light of the world’s changing balances of economic powers, Mahmoud Mohieldin, senior vice president of the World Bank Group, said yesterday, stating that the Arab countries recorded the highest unemployment rates in the world.

Mohieldin, who address a meeting of the Arab League held in Beirut, Lebanon, said Arab countries’ economies are subject to several changes such as people displacement, climate change, speedy technological progress amongst others.

Mohieldin suggested that there should be full electronic commercial strategies, adding: “Sustainable development does not make progress without scientific or technological development.”
