On Sunday, Israel Police found the body of 19-year-old Palestinian citizen of Israel Najla Al-Amuri in an open area near the town of Tel Hadid. Al-Amuri had been missing for over two weeks.
Experts believe the increase in such crimes is a result of lack of law enforcement in Arab areas, the increasing use of illegal arms, incitement against Arabs and the police’s unwillingness to cooperate with the Arab communities.
Palestinian citizens of Israel have long faced institutional discrimination, and about half of the population lives in poverty, the highest rate in Israel.
The high poverty levels experienced by Palestinian families stems largely from the discriminatory policies Israel pursues against them in terms of resource allocation, building permits and, in the case of the country’s Bedouin community, punitive house demolitions.
